The Union Cabinet on Monday (September 2, 2024) approved a bill. Semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat It will be installed by Kenes Semicon Pvt. Ltd.
The approval comes under the revised scheme of the India Semiconductor Mission for setting up semiconductor fabs, which provides 50% capital investment financial support; the scheme has an outlay of ₹76,000 crore. The plant will have an initial investment of ₹3,300 crore.
This unit will have the capacity to produce six million chips per day. “The chips produced at this unit will cater to a wide range of applications, covering sectors such as industrial, automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecommunications, mobile phones, etc,” the government said in a press note.
Earlier in February, the Centre had approved three semiconductor units. Tata Electronics is getting assistance under the scheme to set up a semiconductor fab at Dholera in Gujarat and a semiconductor unit at Morigaon in Assam, while CG Power is getting assistance to set up a semiconductor unit at Sanand.
