Not Zaheer Khan, Kapil Dev or Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami picks these two as his “favourite bowlers of all time”

Players like Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan have etched their names in the history books for the kind of performances they have put up for India. While Kapil is an all-rounder in the true sense, Zaheer, who is a left-arm pacer, was brilliant with his skills during his playing days. Come 2024, Jasprit Bumrah has established himself as one of the modern-era greats in bowling. However, these three are not the only names who have put up stellar bowling performances for India. Former spinners Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh along with off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also find their names in the list of India’s top-performing bowlers.

However, when India pacer Mohammed Shami was asked about his “all-time favourite bowler”, he named two great bowlers who are not from India.

“There are a lot of players. But if you are asking for names, I like Waqar Younis and Dale Steyn more,” Shami said in a rapid fire Q&A session on Star Sports.

Shami, an experienced all-format fast bowler for the Indian team, has played the role of a match-winner in all three formats with many memorable performances and has been a key player for the national team in the ODI World Cup.

Since his memorable international debut in 2013 – where he took nine wickets at Eden Gardens – Shami has made a name for himself with his pace, powerful yorkers and ability to elevate his game in big matches.

The pacer has earned himself a huge fan following by delivering match-winning performances for India in major ICC tournaments, especially the 50-over World Cup, despite battling injuries.

He forms a strong fast bowling pair with Bumrah in all formats of the game.

Shami is one of the best fast bowlers of the modern era with 448 international wickets in 188 matches including 229 in Tests, 195 in ODIs and 24 in T20Is.
