The test, conducted from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, marks a critical advancement in India’s military technology.

According to DRDO’s official release, the missile is capable of carrying multiple payloads and covers ranges exceeding 1,500 km for the Armed Forces. The missile has been indigenously developed by the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex in Hyderabad, with support from various DRDO laboratories and industry partners. Understanding Hypersonic Missiles
Hypersonic missiles travel at speeds at least five times the speed of sound, or Mach-5, equating to about a mile per second. A crucial distinction of these weapons is their manoeuvrability, unlike traditional ballistic missiles that follow predetermined trajectories. Hypersonic weapon systems are categorized into Hypersonic Glide Vehicles (HGVs) and Hypersonic Cruise Missiles (HCMs). HGVs are launched via rockets before gliding to their targets, while HCMs use scramjet engines to maintain high-speed flight after targeting.
