Bangladesh spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed has heaped praise on his spinners and termed them “real match winners” ahead of the two-match Test series against Pakistan starting in Rawalpindi on August 21. Ahmed did not reveal the playing combination for the series opener and said it will be decided after assessing the conditions. “We will decide the combination after going to Rawalpindi and assessing the conditions there. Spinners play an important role in Test cricket, their importance cannot be denied,” Ahmed said in a press conference on Thursday.
He said, “Bangladesh’s spinners are an important part of their team and they are really match winners. The good thing is that good bowlers are emerging in the country. If the conditions are favorable for fast bowlers then we also have good fast bowlers.”
Ahmed also highlighted the strength of Pakistan’s spinners and said they should hire a spin consultant. He suggested taking advantage of experts like Saqlain Mushtaq, Abdul Rehman and Saeed Ajmal and benefiting from these coaches at the grassroots level.
“Pakistan has good spinners and they should also hire a spin consultant. It could be beneficial to leverage the expertise of Saqlain Mushtaq, Abdul Rehman and Saeed Ajmal at the grassroots level,” he stressed.
The veteran cricketer thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for inviting Bangladesh for the tour earlier for practice sessions due to the political unrest in their country.
He said, “PCB has set an example of good relations by inviting Bangladesh early. This has made everyone happy and has facilitated training.”
