Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate a case before a special court. polygraph test On Dr. Sandip Ghosh, former Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospitaland five others related to the incident. The decision was taken while hearing a petition filed by the hospital’s former deputy superintendent Akhtar Ali, who had accused Dr Ghosh of financial misconduct and unethical behaviour. The high court handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI as it is also probing the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital.
Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj has ordered the SIT to hand over all the investigation documents to the CBI by 10 am on Saturday.
The court has given three weeks’ time to the CBI to submit its progress report of the investigation, which is to be submitted on September 17.
Further, the Court directed that petitioner Akhtar Ali can request protection from the CBI, if required.
In a separate development, a Sealdah court today remanded Sanjoy Roy, prime accused in the rape and murder case of a postgraduate trainee doctor. RG Kar Medical College and admitted to hospital, sent to judicial custody for 14 days. His custody under CBI supervision will continue till September 6, 2024.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court, taking suo motu cognizance of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, had ordered the security of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to be handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
The decision has been taken amid growing agitation in West Bengal, with various protests taking place. The deployment of CISF personnel is expected to strengthen security measures and help maintain public order.
CISF personnel have been deployed round the clock to enhance security in the hospital and college premises following the Supreme Court order.
