Here are some of the directions given by the Supreme Court in this matter:
The Supreme Court directed the Secretary to Union Health Ministry to be attached to chief Secretary And the Directors General of Police will have to ensure that the States and Union Territories implement certain basic minimum requirements for safety measures for doctors.
* The Supreme Court said the process of holding meetings should be completed within a week from Thursday.
* The Supreme Court said that the state governments will take remedial and appropriate action within two weeks considering the requirements of the situation.
* The Supreme Court directed National Task Force to hear from representatives of diverse stakeholders on the security of the (NTF) healthcare professionalsWhich also includes doctors.
* The Supreme Court said that the views of stakeholders including interns, residents, senior residents, doctors and nurses as well as para-medical staff will be taken into account by the NTF.
* The Supreme Court directed the Secretary, Ministry of Health to launch a web portal on the ministry’s website on which doctors’ organisations and other stakeholders can give their suggestions.
* The Supreme Court said that peaceful protests should not be hindered and the state should not take any hasty action against the protesters.
* The Supreme Court clarified that it has not prevented the West Bengal government from exercising the legitimate powers conferred on it under the law.
*The Supreme Court asked the protesting doctors to return to work and said that no coercive action would be taken against them in the meantime.
* The Supreme Court said that until the NTF report is submitted, all states and Union Territories should remain alert to any possible breach of security in medical establishments.
