Tanvi Patri of India on Sunday (August 25, 2024) won the Under-15 Girls Singles title at the Badminton Asia Under-17 & Under-15 Junior Championships in Chengdu, China after she defeated Thi Thu Huyen Nguyen of Vietnam in straight games in the final.
First seeded 13-year-old Patry defeated her second seeded opponent 22-20, 21-11 in the final match in just 34 minutes.
With this feat, Patry joined the list of Samia Imad Farooqi and Tasnim Mir, who won the Under-15 girls singles crown in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
Such was Patry’s dominance throughout the tournament that he did not lose a single game in five matches.
In the final, Patry was trailing 11-17 but kept her composure despite Nguyen’s many mistakes. The Indian grabbed the opportunity with both hands and won the first game.
Patry continued her winning streak and dominated the second game right from the start and eventually won the match and the gold medal.
Thus India returned with two medals including one gold and one bronze.
Gyan Dattu TT had won the bronze medal in the Under-17 boys singles event on Saturday.
