New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu said on Thursday that under the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme, free treatment will be provided to all citizens above the age of 70 years. Addressing a joint session of Parliament, she said that the work of opening 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the country is also going on at a fast pace.

Murmu said that free healthcare services are being provided to 55 crore beneficiaries under the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).

The President said, “Apart from this, the government is going to take another decision in this area. Now all the elderly people above the age of 70 years will also get the benefit of free treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.”

AB-PMJAY, the world's largest publicly funded health insurance scheme, aims to provide health cover of Rs 5 lakh per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization to 12 crore families.

The Hospital Empanelment and Management (HEM) Guidelines for Empanelment of Hospitals under AB-PMJAY mandate the State Health Agencies (SHAs) with the responsibility to empanel hospitals under the scheme.
