Chess: D Gukesh's World Championship match against Ding Liren to be held in Singapore

FIDE on Monday announced that Singapore will host the 2024 World Championship match between India's chess sensation D Gukesh and defending champion Ding Liren of China. The development means that Gukesh will not be competing on home turf as neither Delhi nor Chennai have been able to secure the rights to host the much-anticipated event scheduled to be held from November 20 to December 15. “The Singapore Chess Federation, supported by the Singapore Government, has won the bid to host the FIDE World Championship Match 2024,” FIDE said in a release.

“After reviewing the bids and inspecting all potential host cities for their venues, facilities, programmes and opportunities, the International Chess Federation has selected Singapore as the host of the World Championship match,” FIDE said in a release.
