“SpiceJet passengers were barred from checking-in at Dubai airport on Thursday (August 29, 2024) after the airline failed to pay its dues to the airport,” multiple industry sources said.
This forced the airline to operate empty flights from Dubai. It is learnt that the airline’s passengers flying from Dubai have been facing similar problems for the past one week.

SpiceJet has not yet responded to a request for comment on the development.
“We are monitoring SpiceJet. They are going through a challenging time,” a senior civil aviation ministry official said.
On August 12, 2024, Mumbai Airport also issued an advisory to SpiceJet passengers about possible disruption in their flights. This advisory was later withdrawn.
Airlines employees are also upset with the delay in salaries, which have not been paid for two months. This includes pilots and cabin crew. In Guwahati, SpiceJet loaders, cleaners and drivers refused to come to work due to non-payment of salaries and protested outside the airport.

There are also concerns that the airline has failed to deposit its share of provident fund with the Employees Provident Fund Organisation, as well as not depositing tax deducted at source with the Income Tax Department.
Over the past year, several engine and aircraft lessors had dragged SpiceJet to courts seeking its liquidation for failing to pay dues.
