McLarenOscar Piastry won the Saudi Arabia GP, when Polester Max Vastapane was punished for leaving the track and getting an advantage in the early lap. With its third win of the season, Piastry now overtook her team partner Lando Noris to claim the 2025 F1 Championship lead.

FerrariCharles Lakeler claimed Noris to finish third and claim his first podium appearance this season.

PIASTRI 2025 F1 Championship leads the lead

Piastry started a blistering from the second place on the grid. He attracted the level with Vastapane on the run towards Turn 1 before cutting the red bull driver on top.

Along with the accidents of Yuki Tsunoda and Pierre Galley, Vestepen did not get a chance to give back to the piastry, and was eventually given a five-second fine for the incident.

Piastry admitted that he had a difficult time to live with Vastapane in the first term on medium tires. Nevertheless, he took the race lead lead, when Vastapane fined his only pitstop. Australians ahead of Vastapain, its third win of season 2.843 seconds.

“It was not the easiest of victory. I think the beginning was difficult, the first stent was hard behind Max. And once when I had some clean air, it was a little easier to manage. But I could still not take my foot with gas,” Piastry told the media after the race.

“It was a hard race, and Max was quickly behind me, so I had to push. And yes, I think I could control it quite well, but it was a bit tight as much as I would like.”

Verustapane “positively”

It has been a rollercaster of a season so far for Red Bull. But despite losing the victory, Vastapane admitted that he was “positively surprised” as the race of the Red Bull, especially to the struggles faced in Friday practice.

“It was very difficult on Friday. No matter what I was doing in terms of driving (or) management, the tire would simply fall,” said Vastapane. “The car was very good (in the race). (Still) there are boundaries, but it was much more promising”

The red bull driver does not want to move away with the result, however, and said that there was not much to the fall of the tire in the Jeddah cornish circuit. “We know that when we go to the tracks where there is a high decline, we just struggle more. We still need to work on it. But the change we already made yesterday is still working today. So, I am very happy with it,” he said.

Leclerc: “We can maximize everything”

Leclerc selected for a long opening on medium tires before switching to hard tires on Lap 30. He shut down a charging Noris in the closing laps to finish third.

The Ferrari driver revealed after the race, “I think we have completely maximum maximum at the end of this week. The car had nothing else.” “I think we need to focus on qualifying because it is a very long time when I was not happy with the car balance.”

“We were all surprised by our speed at free air at the first stent. It was really good. Everything else was fully executed.”

Piastry has now gained 10 points on Noris in the championship. The VarSTEPEN is in the third place in total, 12 points behind Piastry. In the teams’ championships, McLaren has already made 77 points of Mercedes who finished second in Standing.

After a week’s break, F1 will now go to the USA for Miami GP on 2-4 May.
