First flight at Noida International Airport, Noida conducted its first flight test with an IndiGo plane landing successfully. Operations are set to begin by April next year.
Successful First Flight at Noida Airport
The Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, achieved a significant milestone with its first flight validation test. An IndiGo aircraft took off from Delhi’s IGI Airport and landed smoothly after extensive security checks. The landing, celebrated with a water salute, marks a crucial step toward the airport’s operational readiness.
Strategic Importance of Noida International Airport
Set to begin operations in April 2025, Noida International Airport will be the second major airport in the NCR after IGI Airport. With a sprawling 1,334-hectare area, the airport is expected to handle 1.2 crore passengers annually in its first phase. This number is projected to rise to 3 crore by the decade’s end and eventually to 7 crore.
Government and Private Collaboration Behind the Success
Developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, the project has been a collaboration between the Swiss firm and the Uttar Pradesh government. The foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2021, and the project was completed in record time with support from the Civil Aviation Ministry, Airports Authority of India, and other agencies.
