Hockey India on June 20 decided to retain faith in its proven performers and announced a list of 27 men's team probables for the pre-Olympic national camp, to be held from June 21 to July 8 at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre here.

India have been placed in a tough Pool B at the Olympics along with Belgium, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia and Ireland. The Tokyo Games bronze medallists will begin their Olympic campaign against New Zealand on July 27.

The Indian team is returning to the national camp after a successful stint in the FIH Hockey Pro League, where they finished fourth with 24 points from 16 matches.

The core group includes goalkeepers Krishan Bahadur Pathak, PR Sreejesh, Suraj Karkera and defenders Harmanpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Jugraj Singh, Sanjay and Aamir Ali.

The midfielders called up include Manpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Sumit, Shamsher Singh, Neelkanta Sharma, Rajkumar Pal, Vishnukant Singh, Akashdeep Singh and Mohd Raheel Mousin.

Mandeep Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Abhishek, Dilpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Gurjant Singh, Bobby Singh Dhami and Arajit Singh Hundal have been included in the team.

Striker Dilpreet Singh has not found a place in the core list.

Indian men's hockey team head coach Craig Fulton believes the Pro League matches against the world's top teams were a great experience for his team.

“We want to start an important section of training in this camp and we need to ensure that we are in the best form ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The players have learned a lot from their matches in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24,” he added.

“It has helped us understand where we need to improve. We have a lot of time to work on those areas. We have a strong mix of players who are capable of winning anything,” the South African added.
