According to International Data Corporation (IDC), India shipped 3.39 million units of personal computers, including desktops, notebooks, and workstations, in the second quarter of calendar year 2024, registering a growth of 7.1% over the previous year.

All three categories — desktops, notebooks and workstations — grew by 5.9%, 7.4% and 12.4%, respectively, according to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.

In the second quarter of 2024, the consumer segment grew 11.2% year-on-year due to good demand across both online and offline channels. The e-tail channel grew well at 22.4% year-on-year. IDC said the commercial segment grew 3.5% year-on-year, led by increased demand in the SMB and LB segments, which grew 12.4% and 33.1% year-on-year, respectively. Bharat Shenoy, Research Manager, IDC India and South Asia, said, “This is the fourth consecutive quarter of year-on-year growth for the consumer segment.” He added, “Sellers have started school/college campaigns and the e-tail channel has also seen good demand during online sales.”

Commenting on the outlook, Navkendar Singh, Associate Vice President, Device Research, IDC India, South Asia and ANZ, said, “The introduction of AI PCs and multiple launches in the last few months have certainly brought a wave of optimism to the PC market. AI PCs will also drive refresh commercial orders from Q3 2024.”

HP topped the list with a share of 33.5% and 29.7% in both commercial and consumer segments, respectively. Lenovo ranked second with annual growth of 32.7% and 6.3% in consumer and commercial segments, respectively.

In third place is Dell Technologies, whose commercial desktop category witnessed a 15.9% annual decline due to continued pricing pressure, however, the consumer segment witnessed a growth of 6.4%.
