The fire, suspected to be caused by an electrical short circuit, erupted around 10:45 p.m. on Friday, November 15, in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College, Jhansi.
Children Rescued from the Flames
The District Magistrate, Avinash Kumar, reported that children in the outer section of the NICU were saved, but many in the interior part could not be rescued in time.
Over 50 Children Admitted at the Time
The NICU had over 50 children present when the fire broke out. Despite rescue efforts, 16 injured children remain in critical condition, battling for their lives.
