There is silence in the industry Kantara“I would say the slowdown is not just in the Kannada industry but in every language industry. Except Malayalam cinema, no other language film has done well in the first half of 2024. Star-led films are not being made like before in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu cinema.”

Srini says newcomers are not crowd pullers yet. “We should promote both so that stars can pull crowds to theatres and promote newcomers so that new talent is also promoted. This slowdown is just a phase, which we will overcome as the second half of 2024 looks good for Indian cinema, with both star vehicles and content-driven films lined up for release.”

Before entering films, Srini was an RJ and his show, Blade King, made him a household name. He credits his stint as a radio jockey for teaching him spontaneity. “Being a radio jockey I learnt to build a bond with my listeners and maintain presence of mind. I learnt about the science of sound, which plays a vital role in cinema. It is not just about sound or music throughout a film but also about silence, which can be a powerful tool. This is what I learnt from the world of radio. The transition from audio to visual medium has been an interesting process for me.”
