Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Sparks Political Tension in Bengal
The ongoing Kolkata doctor rape-murder case has ignited a political standoff between the West Bengal government and the opposition BJP. The controversy escalated on Thursday as junior doctors refused to engage with the state government unless their demand to live stream a meeting was fulfilled. Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee strongly condemned the medics, labeling them “inhumane” and “unfit to become doctors.” He even urged the government to block them from appearing for their final exams.

The protests began after the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital. Medical professionals across West Bengal have been on strike since August 9, demanding justice. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had been waiting for two hours for the doctors to meet with her, expressed regret over their refusal to talk. In a bold move, she also offered to resign if the situation could not be resolved.
