Santosh Iyer, managing director and chief executive officer of Mercedes-Benz India, said, “EVS acceptance in the collective market is stronger than the month market. Currently, we have 8 percent EV penetration, and some other luxury brands are 10–12 percent.”

Conversely, while EV adoption is increasing in the mass-market segment, it is still about 2-3 percent in the previous financial year, even the total EV sales have reached about 1.2 million units.

Iyer credited high entry into the luxury segment for maximum customer readiness. “It’s not only about numbers-it is also being sold as such EVS. We focus on top-end electric vehicles, while other entry-level EVs can offer. But across the board, acceptance in luxury is strong.”

Strong demand for top-end EVS

In the financial year 2024-25, the EV sales of the German automaker increased by 51 percent. In March quarter, locally assembled EQS SUV EV entry up to 8 percent of total sales pushed.
