Bangladesh star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named as an accused in connection with an alleged murder during the recent protests and violence in Bangladesh that left hundreds dead.

According to Bangladesh police, the 37-year-old former captain, a former lawmaker in the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government, is among 147 people against whom charges have been filed for alleged murder during the protests in early August. ESPNcricinfo,

The murder case was lodged by Rafiqul Islam at the Adabor Police Station in Dhaka and apart from Mr Shakib, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and several former ministers and MPs of the party are also among the accused.

Mr Islam’s son Rubel was killed during protests on August 7, triggering political turmoil in the country.

according to Daily StarThe case statement mentioned that “The complainant has alleged that some of the accused, directly or indirectly at the direction of some others, opened fire when hundreds of students, including Mr Rubel, were protesting on the Ring Road in Adabor area on August 5.”

“Mr Rubel was injured in the firing and died in the hospital two days later,” the FIR said.
