Saif Ali Khan may lose ancestral properties, including the iconic Pataudi Palace, worth ₹15,000 crore under the Enemy Property Act.
Saif Khan to Lose His Pataudi Palace
Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan faces the possibility of losing ancestral properties worth ₹15,000 crore, including the Pataudi Palace, under the Enemy Property Act of 1968. This follows a Madhya Pradesh High Court decision lifting a 2015 stay on the properties.
Properties Under Threat
The properties affected include Pataudi Palace, Noor-Us-Sabah Palace, Flag Staff House, Dar-Us-Salam, and others tied to Saif’s lineage through Nawab Hamidullah Khan. The controversy stems from the Nawab’s daughter migrating to Pakistan, while Saif’s grandmother, Sajida Sultan, remained in India. This has led to the government citing the act to stake a claim on the properties.
Pataudi Palace’s Rich History
Pataudi Palace, built in 1935 by Saif’s grandfather to impress Sajida Sultan’s family, holds significant sentimental and historical value. Saif reclaimed it after it had been leased to a hotel chain by his father. The family uses it as a summer retreat and for film productions. Saif’s sister, Soha Ali Khan, revealed that their mother, Sharmila Tagore, manages the palace’s finances meticulously.
The potential loss of these properties marks a critical juncture for the Pataudi family as they navigate complex legal challenges.
