The absence of SEBI chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch on October 24, 2024, citing personal reasons, led to the adjournment of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting. PAC chairman K.C. Venugopal informed members about her non-attendance, postponing the session.
BJP Members Raise Concerns
BJP MPs voiced their concerns to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, protesting against K.C. Venugopal for not consulting them before summoning the SEBI chief. They also complained about not being notified on time regarding her absence.
Venugopal’s Response on the Matter
Addressing the media after the adjournment, Mr. Venugopal stated that Ms. Buch’s non-attendance due to personal reasons was communicated in the morning. Despite deeming it potentially contemptuous, he acknowledged her situation, noting her as “a lady,” thus the meeting was postponed.
