The Indian cricket team's journey in the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup began with a big win over Afghanistan on Thursday. Despite facing challenges at various stages of the match, India emerged victorious with almost no loss. Although Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma could not perform to their potential, Suryakumar Yadav scored a brilliant half-century with a good support from Hardik Pandya. Jasprit Bumrah spewed fire with the ball, while players like Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav also found success.

Rashid Khan took three wickets for Afghanistan and got the wickets of Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dubey. As long as he was bowling, the Indian batsmen were finding it difficult. However, Rashid hit him for a few boundaries. They even came face to face as Rashid could be seen telling him something. “Stop sweeping me, he says,” former Indian cricket team coach Ravi Shastri said in the commentary.

After the win against Afghanistan, India now have their remaining matches against Bangladesh (June 22) and Australia (June 24) and they will have to perform well in them to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Chasing a target of 182 runs, Rahmanullah Gurbaz started well by hitting a four and a six off Arshdeep Singh in the first over. However, in the next over, Jasprit Bumrah got Gurbaz caught by Rishabh Pant behind the wicket. Gurbaz was out after scoring just 11 runs in eight balls. Afghanistan's score was 13/1 in 1.2 overs.

Afghanistan were 66/3 at halftime, with Naib (17*) and Umarzai (25*) unbeaten.

As Afghanistan were building partnerships, the Indian spinners turned the match in their favour. Kuldeep dismissed Naib for 17 off 21 balls with a four and a six, while Jadeja dismissed Umarzai for 26 off 20 balls with two fours and a six. Axar took a brilliant catch to dismiss Umarzai. Afghanistan were reduced to 71/5 in 11.1 overs.

For India, Bumrah (3/7) and Arshdeep (3/36) bowled brilliantly. Kuldeep got two wickets, while Akshar and Jadeja got one wicket each.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav's brilliant half-century and his 60-run partnership with Hardik Pandya helped India score 181/8 in 20 overs against Afghanistan in the ICC T20 World Cup Super Eight game in Barbados on Thursday.

India need to defend 182 runs to start the Super 8s with a win.
