Delhi Excise Case: Supreme Court Raises Concerns Over CBI’s Timing
In a major development, the Supreme Court granted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal bail in the Delhi excise case, just ahead of the Haryana elections. The AAP leader, who had been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, had also been taken into custody by the CBI in June. The court raised concerns over the timing of the CBI’s actions, questioning why the arrest came only after ED’s stay.
Delhi Excise Case Verdict: CBI’s Role Under Scrutiny
The Supreme Court highlighted that while the arrest was legal, the CBI’s actions raised doubts. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan remarked on the delayed arrest, stating it seemed designed to counteract the bail granted in the ED case. The court emphasized that the process of trial should not become a punishment, and directed Kejriwal to refrain from public comments on the case.
