‘Dwapara’ has taken social media by storm, resulting in several lakh Instagram reels being created on its song. Within days of its release, the song transcended linguistic roots as it mesmerized people on Instagram and YouTube. With over 30 million views on YouTube, the number also attracted people to watch the film in theatres, making the film one of the highest-grossing films of 2024 in Kannada.

Srinivasa Raju, Director, Krishnam love friend, Talking about his big decision to use the song as promotional content before the film’s release, he said, “We didn’t release a teaser or trailer. I don’t know which was the last film – at least in Kannada – that didn’t even have a trailer! My team members thought I was taking a risk… but I stood by my decision.

“For me, any promotional material is an invitation to the audience. So, I wanted to draw people to the cinema halls with just one song. Because music is the backbone of any love story; be it in any region a star is born Or Who are we to you…! “The songs made the difference,” he said.

According to music director Arjun Janya, the composition reflects the ecstasy of a man in love. “The hero sees this beautiful woman and he is mesmerised by her. He wants this feeling to last forever. That’s why, if you notice, the pallavi in ​​the song is long,” he says.

That was the information I got from the director. So, I chose Sufi music instead of Indian classical music, which included tabla, dholak and shehnai.”

Srinivasa Raju was particularly excited about the sounds in the song. “In the last three-four years, we have heard a lot of high-voltage Western music. I wanted the song to have Indian instruments because I wanted it to be simple and impactful.”

V Nagendra Prasad’s lines match perfectly with the song’s hook tune. The words ‘Jena Daniyole Meena Kannole’ (one with sweet voice and beautiful eyes) came easily to the veteran lyricist’s mind. “I just had to describe the hero’s admiration for his special one. The craze for the song has taught me that you have to keep it simple. People have an extra fondness for songs with full Kannada lyrics,” he said.

Shot in the beautiful locales of Bengaluru and Vietnam, ‘Dwapara’ is a treat to the eyes too. “I asked the cinematographer (Venkat Prasad) to avoid weird angles and zigzag movements. I wanted the whole song to be colourful. With action dramas leading to an overabundance of visual shocks in recent films, I wanted to bring a sense of calm on screen,” says Srinivasa Raju.

Ganesh has the knack of conveying just the right emotions in a song, apart from his ability to create magic on screen by adding little nuances in front of the camera. “It is refreshing to write a song for Ganesh sir as we know he pulls it off to perfection,” says Nagendra Prasad. The actor, who is not known for his dancing skills, has apparently impressed people with the song’s hook steps. “It took us four to five days to rehearse the steps,” says Srinivasa Raju.
