New Delhi:
Vijay Varma is all set to play the toughest role of his career in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, a film based on the horrific hijacking incident of 1999. Known for playing characters to perfection, Vijay faced an unprecedented challenge while shooting for this film – he had to act alone, with nothing but a green screen and minimal physical gestures.
In a recent statement, Vijay shared the intensity of this experience, saying, “I was locked in a six feet by six feet space and there was a green screen around me and my co-actors were the seat belts, my landing gear, my instruments, and my co-pilot and my flight assistant, flight engineer, and I could barely see Anubhav sir because he would find me, come in front of me and tell me what to do, and then disappear and I would be left all alone.”
He elaborated on the hallucinatory nature of the shoot, and how he had to constantly rely on his imagination to stay in character, “And then I look at the green screen and ask where am I right now, am I in Amritsar or Lahore…they say you are in Khatmandu, Delhi, Kandahar. I don’t know what date it is, what time it is. It was an experience for me, I had to use my imagination to the fullest, to imagine myself flying at 30,000 feet and imagine what it would be like.”
The official trailer of IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack was released recently and it created a lot of buzz among fans and movie lovers. The film will be released on Netflix on August 29.
