New Delhi: In the last few months, the Indian education system has been in the news due to paper leaks. Incidents of paper leaks have happened at the state level as well as at the national level.

The NEET-UG 2024 paper leak led to protests by students across the country, forcing the government to postpone the respective exams. The NEET-PG entrance exam was postponed as a “precautionary measure” to prevent further paper leaks.

As the talks of question paper leaks and irregularities continue to be rife, there has been widespread anxiety and speculation among candidates and stakeholders.

Explaining the developments, Dr Abhijat Sheth, chairman of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), said in an interview, “As far as NEET-PG is concerned, the integrity of this exam has never been in doubt. For the last seven years, we have conducted it successfully so far… Because of the recent events, what has happened is that there were a lot of concerns among the student communities about all these kinds of exams and in response to that, the government has decided to once again ensure that the sanctity and safety of the exam should be maintained. So they have decided to review the SOPs and protocols as soon as possible. We will announce the next date next week…”

Sharing his views on the social media messages and the advisory issued against cheaters, he said, “It was for safety, that is why we published the SOPs before the exams, it is all perception, social media is so widespread these days that sometimes it gives wrong messages to students and we want students to stay on the right track.”
