Bengaluru: United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has issued a Emergency Tender to secure Ampox Vaccines For Countries in crisis in collaboration with Gavi Vaccine Alliance, Africa CDC and the World Health Organization, the two organisations said in a joint statement on Saturday.

According to the statement, agreements could be reached for up to 12 million doses by 2025, depending on the production capacity of manufacturers.

Under the tender, UNICEF will enter into conditional supply agreements with vaccine manufacturers, the statement said.

This will allow UNICEF to procure and ship vaccines without delay once funding, demand, readiness and regulatory requirements are confirmed.

World Health Organisation Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said so far this year there have been more than 18,000 suspected cases of ampox in Congo, with 629 deaths, while more than 150 cases have been confirmed in Burundi.
