Team India ended an 11-year ICC trophy drought by winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title on Saturday (IST), leading to a celebration that shows no signs of ending. Batting first in the final against South Africa, India scored 176/7 in 20 overs. Later, the Proteas put up a tough fight but lost by seven runs as pacer Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya led Team India to victory. Apart from them, the most important contribution came from star batsman Virat Kohli, who battled through his bad phase and played a heroic knock of 76 runs off 59 balls.

After the memorable title win, emotions were at their peak in the Indian camp and many players could not hold back their tears of joy. From captain Rohit Sharma to all-rounder Hardik, everyone's eyes were moist.

However, the emotions shown by Virat Kohli became one of the highlights of the night. After the win, Kohli was probably on a video call with his wife Anushka Sharma. As soon as the call got connected, the right-handed batsman was in tears.

After some time, he wiped his tears and started talking to his kids and a different side of Kohli was seen. He made funny faces to his kids and the whole family celebrated Team India's historic moment.

Both Kohli and Rohit cleared the way for the younger generation by announcing their respective retirements from the T20I format.

“It was my last T20 World Cup, it was exactly what we wanted to achieve. One day you think you can't score runs and it happens, God is great. Just the opportunity, now or never kind of situation. It was my last T20 match playing for India. We wanted to lift that cup. Yes, I have lifted it, it was an open secret. It was not something I was going to declare even after losing.

“It's time for the next generation to take the T20 game forward and create wonders like we have seen them do in the IPL. I have no doubt they will keep the flag flying high and take this team even further,” Kohli said after the match.
