Dr Akshay More, general secretary of Sion-MARD and BMC-MARD told ANI, “The patient arrived at the hospital after midnight in an inebriated state with 7-8 relatives. He was assaulted before coming to the hospital and had injuries on his face… He was referred to ENT at 3:30 am due to his injuries. Our on-call resident doctor in the ENT department was a woman. After a routine procedure, she opened the bandage to check the wounds. That’s when the patient started abusing her.”
More said, “Instead of controlling the patient, the relatives started abusing the resident doctor. Things soon escalated to a fight… The nurses intervened but by then the doctor had scratches on his hands. By the time security personnel were called in, the patient and relatives had fled… Such incidents happen often and are mostly unreported, but we cannot tolerate this incident, especially after what happened in Kolkata.”
Mirror Now claimed in a post on social media that 5-6 drunk people threatened a resident doctor and also tried to assault her at the hospital on Sunday morning. A police report has been filed regarding the incident. The news channel claimed that the patient and his companions fled from the hospital after the incident.
