YRF issues statement after Gujarat High Court lifts ban on Junaid Khan's debut film Maharaj

Yash Raj Films (YRF) issued a statement after the Gujarat High Court lifted the ban on the release of Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan's debut film. MaharajJunaid Khan's debut film is now available for streaming on Netflix. The court's verdict states that the film, based on the events related to the 1862 Maharaja defamation case, is not intended to disrespect the sentiments of any community.

In its statement, YRF expressed gratitude for the judiciary's decision to allow the release of Maharaj. The statement said, “We are grateful to the judiciary for allowing the release of Maharaj, a film that celebrates Karsandas Mulji, one of our country's most important social reformers. Karsandas, a hero and a devout Vaishnav, stood up for righteousness, protected women and safeguarded his community and faith. Maharaj is a tribute to his indomitable fighting spirit and his courage to be on the right side of history.”

“Yash Raj Films has a 50-year-old legacy of promoting India, its stories, its people, culture and heritage. We have never made a film that tarnishes the reputation of our country or our countrymen. Hope you watch Maharaj and join us in saluting Karsandas. Thank you,” the statement said.

It was earlier scheduled to release on June 14, Maharaj The film faced a delay when the High Court intervened following objections from a group of traders who feared the film might hurt Vaishnav religious sentiments. However, after Justice Sangeeta K. Vishen personally watched the film, she allowed Netflix to continue streaming it. Along with Junaid Khan, the film stars Jaideep Ahlawat and Sharvari Wagh in pivotal roles.
