White House engages: Pro-Khalistan Groups Get Assurances- 21/09/2024

White House engages

For the first time, the White House engages with pro-Khalistan groups, offering assurances of protection from transnational aggression.

White House with Pro-Khalistan Groups

In a surprising move, the White House held its first official meeting with a group of Sikhs who support the Khalistan movement. This unprecedented engagement has raised eyebrows, particularly as it was initiated by the White House itself.

The White House assured these groups of “protection from any transnational aggression on its soil,” marking a significant development in the ongoing discussions around Khalistan sympathizers in North America.

Concerns Over Khalistani Separatists

This meeting comes amid growing concerns that both Canada and the US are giving asylum and shelter to Khalistani separatists. These concerns have been voiced by Indian officials, as pro-Khalistan sentiments have sparked diplomatic tensions.

India’s Stance on Separatism

In response to the developments, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated, “India respects and practices freedom of speech, but freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom to support separatism.” He emphasized that supporting separatism or advocating violence is not aligned with democratic values.

The assurance provided by the White House, however, reflects its commitment to protecting American citizens from harm while within US borders.
