Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra will lead the Indian men’s and women’s teams respectively at the 27th Asian Table Tennis Championships to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan from October 7 to 13.
A release issued by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) said that the championship will see the participation of the top players from the continent and the selection committee has finalised the team to compete on this grand platform.
TTFI has taken into account world rankings, international experience and performance at the national level as the main criteria for the final team.
India’s foreign coach Massimo Costantini said, “I hope the players will give their best in Astana.”
The Asian Championships holds immense importance for the Indian team as it is an important qualifying tournament for the World Championships and the Asian Games.
Teams: Men: A. Sharath Kamal (captain), Manav Thakkar, Harmeet Desai, G. Sathiyan, Manush Shah; Reserve Fund: SFR Snehit, Jeet Chandra.
women: Manika Batra (captain), Sreeja Akula, Ayhika Mukherjee, Diya Chitale, Sutirtha Mukherjee; Reserve Fund: Yashaswini Ghorpade and Poymanti Baisya.
