CID files charges under MCOCA against Walmik Karad in Beed sarpanch murder case after pressure from the victim’s family and political parties.
CID Charges Walmik Karad Under MCOCA
The Maharashtra CID has charged Walmik Karad under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in connection with the murder of Beed district sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. The move came after persistent pressure from the victim’s family and various political parties.
Court Proceedings Against Karad
Karad, who surrendered to the police after being accused of extortion, was in police custody for 14 days. On Tuesday, the local court in Parli transferred him to magisterial custody and rejected an extension of his police custody. While Karad’s lawyers sought bail, the CID filed MCOCA charges, leading to his appearance in a local court in Kaij.
Significance of MCOCA Charges
The MCOCA charges signify the gravity of the case, marking it as organized crime. The case is still under hearing, with Karad’s bail application pending further judicial review.
