The hunger strike by junior doctors in West Bengal, following the rape and murder at R.G. Kar Hospital, has entered its ninth day on October 13, 2024. Protesters across the state are observing a “symbolic fast” to show support, while three junior doctors in Kolkata and Siliguri have been hospitalized due to deteriorating health.
Widespread Solidarity for Protesting Junior Doctors
Former students of R.G. Kar Hospital joined the protest with a 12-hour symbolic fast, despite facing resistance from CISF personnel stationed at the hospital. Citizens in districts like Malda and Murshidabad are also participating in the symbolic fast. The doctors have called for people to observe “Arandhan” (no cooking) on October 13 to further express solidarity with their cause.
