Manipur Clashes: Civilian Murder Sparks Deadly Gunfight, Four Militants Killed

A fresh surge of violence in Manipur’s Jiribam district left five people dead, including a civilian and four militants, on Saturday morning. According to authorities, the violence began when militants entered a village and shot a civilian inside his home, triggering a fierce gunfight between the assailants and security forces.The militants, who are believed to be from both the Kuki and Meitei communities, were killed in the exchange of fire.

The incident is part of a long-running ethnic conflict that has destabilized the region for over a year and a half, with the situation worsening over the past five days.On Friday night, unrest continued to escalate when mobs attempted to raid the armories of the 2 Manipur Rifles and 7 Manipur Rifles in Imphal, following the murder of an elderly man in Bishnupur. Security forces thwarted the looting attempts, but the region remains on edge as tensions between the Kuki and Meitei communities intensify.
