Mercedes Benz India became the first luxury car brand to collect 2,00,000 passenger vehicles locally. This milestone was achieved with the rollout of Mercedes’ electric flagship, EQS SUVFrom its Chakan plant in Pune, Maharashtra. While the first 50,000 units took 19 years (1995–2014) to gather, the remaining 1,50,000 four-two vehicles required just a decade (2015–2025), which translates to 470 percent jump in production.

“Mercedes has underlined India’s capacity as a major manufacturing center in the long run. (Chakan) Plant has achieved high levels of production by creating world-class ice and EVS under one roof,” Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s managing member Dr. Dr. Jorgi Bers has said.
Santosh Iyer, MD and CEO of Mercedes India, said, “We will continue to invest in our state -of -the -art construction facilities, catering for the growing demand of the market,” said MD and CEO of Mercedes India.
The production facility has received an investment of more than Rs 3,000 crore over the years, including a funding of Rs 200 crore in 2024.
In 2015, the Chakan feature became the first time to produce Mercedes-Meback S500 outside Germany. The local assembly of EQS sedan began in 2022, the same year the plant made a complete transition to use renewable energy. This was followed by the EQS SUV in 2024. The current portfolio of Mercedes India has a completely knock (CKD) model, which is the highest for a luxury car manufacturer in the country.
