Why the car struggles to give a real ‘connected’ driving experience today.
Is the automobile at its peak? Well, certainly not in the context of technology. These are areas where it is continuously getting better.
However, the purposeful look at how many good cars are still to drive today, how good they were 10, 15 or 20 years ago, and a clear pattern emerges. Sure, cars are sharp today; But are today’s cars better to drive? Are they more involved, feel more attractive? The easy answer is not a big.
First is the steering feel and connect. This is relatively easy, especially in our era to complete the lowest decisor in the era of super-light steering wheels. And yes, while the electric steering systems have come a long way, they are still miles away from most hydraulic units. The problem stems from the fact that steering’s electric motor protects the Max torque almost immediately, tarnishing any real experience. In contrast, hydraulic units combine progressively and reward you with real touch reaction. Every turn of the wheel here transmits a stable ramp in the steering weight; You feel that you start turning the wheel, and you can also feel the tires that interact with the pavement as soon as you arrive in a corner. Today’s weightless and over-assisted systems do not just give a chance.
This is also true with suspension systems. Free from adaptive and electronic control systems, the suspension setup on earlier cars was simple and not as ride-centric. And this allows for some real experience during infection, such as when you move from one corner to another. In addition, while the chassis of a modern car is the stifer, which is good for the grip, they are very heavy, which kills agility. Originally, further you go from a Go-Cart or a super light single-seater, low driving bliss you remove from a car.
Whatever feels and connects with the road is insulation. Modern vehicles are engineered to get out the outside world, and this extra layer also removes us from the driving environment. Without heavy moist panels, you are more immersed in experience and more connected how the car interacts with the road. And it creates for more texture and granular driving experience.
Then, the engine is. 10–15-year-old cars are often naturally aspirated engines that are responsible (no turbos) and distribute power in a broader powerband, with maximum power at the top. This means that when you ask for this, they make power.
These are some reasons that many cars of this era are likely to continue shooting in value. They cannot have a flash of modern cars or technology, but do a good drive today, and you will experience a pleasure. Modern cars can’t simply distribute. If you can find a good modern car, it is – most automobiles are SUVs today! Remember when cars were made fun to drive exclusively?
