Bangalore: The Inquiry Commissionheaded by a retired High Court Judge John Michael Cunhasubmitted its interim report on alleged irregularities in Covid-19 management during the previous BJP government. The report was submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday.

The 1,722-page interim report examined purchases worth Rs 6,651 crore made by the Ministry of Family and Health Services, National Health Mission, Directorate of Medical Education, Karnataka State Medical Supplies Corporation, Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, BBMP central office and four regional offices.

The commission is yet to submit its investigation report pertaining to four zones and 31 districts of the BBMP, for which it has been given an extension of six months.

After receiving the report, Siddaramaiah told the Commission that the report would be tabled in the legislature during the upcoming winter session and appropriate action would be taken against those found guilty.

The move is being seen as an attempt to counter the opposition BJP, which is running a vigorous campaign against Siddaramaiah over the alleged Valmiki ST Corporation and Mysuru Urban Development Authority scams.

During the previous BJP government, the opposition Congress had aggressively campaigned on issues related to Covid-19 management irregularities.

The commission’s mandate included investigating the purchase of medicines, rapid antigen test (RAT) kits, COVID-19 management equipment, ventilators and oxygen cylinders by the health and medical education departments. Additionally, the commission was also asked to investigate deaths due to lack of oxygen.
