Sarigama Viji: A Storied Career in Kannada Cinema and Theatre
Veteran Kannada actor and stage director Sarigama Viji passed away on January 15 at the age of 76. Known for his illustrious career in the entertainment industry, Viji acted in 269 films and directed over 2,400 episodes of Kannada television serials. He also worked as an assistant director in around 80 films.
Viji earned his iconic nickname “Sarigama Viji” through his renowned play Samsaradalli Sarigama, which was performed over 1,390 times across Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. His contributions to theatre and cinema, including his comedic performances, left an indelible mark on audiences.
Honoring a Legend
Sarigama Viji’s funeral rites are scheduled for January 16 at the T R Mill crematorium in Chamarajpet. His final on-screen appearance was in the film Dakota Picture. Viji’s legacy as a pioneer in Kannada entertainment will continue to inspire future generations.
