Barcelona coach Hansi Flick hopes Dani Olmo can make his debut for the club against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. The playmaker, signed from RB Leipzig this summer, has not yet been registered with La Liga because of the Catalan giants’ financial difficulties. Barcelona have allowed the midfielder ilke gundogan to rejoin Manchester City on Friday, which could give them enough space to register Olmo. “(Finances) are not my job, we work with the team and I really liked what I saw this week, Danny is ready to play and we are waiting for him and hopefully he will be in the team tomorrow,” Flick told reporters on Friday.
“He can help us, it would be great for us, he is an excellent player.”
“Everyone can see in training that he is unbelievable when under pressure or in front of goal, it’s great to have him back into the squad as soon as possible.”
Olmo, 26, was crucial for Spain this summer as they won Euro 2024, finishing as the competition’s joint top goalscorer with three goals.
Flick said Fermin LopezThe Euro and Olympic gold winner for Spain was set to return to Barcelona.
There had been talks of signing Athletic and Spain winger Nico Williams from Barcelona but he will face Barcelona on Saturday and will remain with the Copa del Rey winners this season.
“We have an experienced player, Jules (Konde) will take care of him, it’s not my job to talk about (Williams) because he’s not our player,” the German coach said.
“Our focus is on how we play against him and I think Jules will do a good job.”
