New Delhi: Indian Medical Association (IMA) was formed disciplinary committee IMA president Dr RV Ashokan on Thursday said taking cognizance of complaints from the victim’s parents and various doctors’ associations, a meeting was called at the headquarters following which he was suspended.
He further said that the Bengal branch of IMA and other doctors’ organisations had written that Dr Ghosh had brought disrepute to the entire profession, due to which his membership was suspended.
IMA national president Dr RV Asokan said in a self-made video, “The Indian Medical Association (IMA) headquarters has suspended the membership of former IMA principal Dr Sandip Ghosh.” RG Kar Medical College and the Vice-President of the hospital and the Calcutta IMA branch. Dr Ashokan said, “These complaints were expressed to the national president and general secretary of IMA. The Bengal branch of IMA and other doctors’ associations had written that the concerned member had brought disrepute to the entire profession, taking cognizance of which the IMA disciplinary committee has suspended his membership.”
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Wednesday suspended the membership of Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, amid a CBI probe into the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor earlier this month.

The Calcutta High Court has given the CBI three weeks to submit a progress report of the investigation, which is to be submitted on September 17.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had ordered the security of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to be handed over to the state government. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) gave this order while hearing a suo motu case regarding the incident. The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on 9 August.
