Lyon names USMNT’s Tanner Tessmann as first American player to join club

Lyon have signed United States international Tanner Tessman From VeneziaThe Ligue 1 club said in a statement, statement On Tuesday.

Tessmann has signed a contract until 30 June 2029. ESPN reported The clubs had agreed on a transfer fee of 7 million euros ($7.8 million).

Tessmann, 22, spent the last three seasons playing for Italian side Venezia in Serie A and then Serie B.

“Olympique Lyonnais is delighted to welcome Tanner Tessmann, who becomes the first American in history to wear the club’s jersey,” the club said in a statement.

The Lyon team, owned by American billionaire John Textor, are looking to pick up their first points of the season after suffering two defeats at the start of the campaign.

Tessmann made 20 Serie A appearances for Venezia before moving to Serie B at the end of the 2021-22 season. He was instrumental in leading the club back to Italy’s top division last season, missing just one game while registering seven goals and three assists.

He has made two appearances for the senior US men’s national team, making his debut in January 2021.
