Salim-Javed – The name is enoughThe superhit screenwriters of the 70s wrote the new rules of Hindi cinema and presented public sentiment in its purest form in their famous blockbusters. In conversation with NDTV’s Nikunj Garg and Maria Shakeel on the show India through the lens of its symbols, Javed Akhtar was asked to create a formula for his stories that would appeal to an entire generation. Javed Akhtar recalled, “Looking back, we had no idea. I am very happy that we didn’t know this. If we had known what society wanted, what society wanted, it would have meant we would have been looking at society from outside and prescribing medicines. No, we were part of society, we were breathing the same air, we were feeling the same way your neighbour was feeling. We did this without knowing that everybody was feeling the same way. It was a better situation, rather than us sitting on a chair and thinking, ‘Oh, these people wanted these stories.’ We did it because we wanted these stories. And luckily, the circumstances were such that everybody wanted these stories.”
Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan worked together Between 1971 and 1987 they worked together in 24 films, 20 of which were commercial and critical successes. They wrote screenplays for hit films such as Sita and Geeta, Zanjeer, Procession of Memories, Deewar, cinder, Trident, Dawn, Kala Patthar, Shaanto name a few.
