Vikrant Massey in ‘Sector 36’
Netflix India has released its trailer. Section 36A dark crime thriller starring Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal. Inspired by true events, the film is based on the search for a serial killer after several children go missing from a slum in North India. It is directed by debutant Aditya Nimbalkar and written by Bodhayan Roychowdhury.
In the trailer, the police officer who references Newton, Ram Charan Pandey (Deepak Dobriyal), is on the lookout for Prem Singh (Vikrant Massey), a killer who is on the loose. Though the makers have not explicitly revealed the source of their inspiration, the events in the film bear a resemblance to the 2006 Noida serial murders, It is also known as Nithari massacre,
In 2006, Nithari village in Sector-31, Noida became infamous for its missing children and women, which led to skeletons being found near a large house. The wealthy owner of the house, Moninder Singh Pandher, and his domestic help, Surinder Koli, were arrested for kidnapping, murder, and rape. The case went on for several years and made headlines around the world. The accused were sentenced to death in 2017, but were later acquitted by the Allahabad High Court in 2023, citing lack of concrete evidence to justify the acquittal.
Talking about his role in sector 36Vikrant Massey said in a statement, “Playing Prem for this film was unlike any character I have done before. Playing a layered and terrifying killer who can be portrayed like any other person has been difficult. Aditya (Nimbalkar) has done a fantastic job in carefully creating this grim world. This is an incredibly important film, and as storytellers, along with Netflix and Maddock Films, we hope that audiences understand the need to tell stories like this.”
Sector 36 is produced by Maddock Films and Jio Studios. The film will stream on Netflix from September 13.
