Six People Killed by Terrorist Attack in Gagangir On Sunday evening,
terrorists targeted Jammu and Kashmir’s Gagangir, killing six people, including two non-locals, near a campsite of the Z-Morh tunnel. The attack left five others injured, with four in critical condition. Among the deceased were two officers and Dr. Shahnawaz, a local resident from Budgam district.
Z-Morh Tunnel’s Strategic Importance
The Z-Morh tunnel is under construction and is considered vital for ensuring all-weather connectivity to Ladakh, a crucial link for the Indian Army and essential supplies. Heavy snowfall at Zojila frequently cuts off Ladakh from Kashmir, making the tunnel a strategic asset for the region.
Security Measures and Investigation
The area has been cordoned off by security personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police. Teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have arrived to probe the attack. Leaders including Chief Minister Abdullah, Nitin Gadkari, and Home Minister Amit Shah have condemned the assault, calling for stringent actions against terrorism.
