Heatstroke Tragedy Follows IAF Air Show at Marina Beach
The IAF Air Show on Marina Beach in Chennai attracted a massive crowd of 15 lakh people on Sunday. While the aerial display left spectators in awe, the day took a tragic turn as five individuals died due to heatstroke after the event, with two others hospitalized and nearly 100 treated at government hospitals.
Huge Turnout and Unpreparedness
Crowds began arriving as early as 8 a.m., causing gridlock around the area. Many attendees were unprepared for the scorching heat, despite warnings to bring umbrellas and water. Among the victims was V. Karthikeyan, a 34-year-old resident of Thiruvottiyur, who collapsed after the event. Others, including D. John and Srinivasan, also succumbed to the intense heat while attempting to leave the venue.

The tragedy underscores the importance of proper heat safety precautions during large outdoor events. Authorities are urging future event-goers to stay hydrated and prepared for extreme weather conditions to avoid such incidents.
