In a tragic incident near Chennai, a passenger train travelling from Mysuru to Darbhanga collided with a stationary goods train at Kavaraippettai railway station in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district. The collision occurred around 8:30 pm on Friday, causing 12 coaches of the passenger train to derail. A power car and parcel van caught fire, leaving at least 19 passengers injured. Of these, four sustained severe injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
Emergency Response and Passenger Safety
Tiruvallur District Collector, Dr. T Prabhushankar, confirmed that 1,360 passengers were onboard at the time of the accident, and fortunately, no fatalities have been reported. The stranded passengers were transported to Dr. MGR Chennai Central railway station via MTC buses, and a special train departed early morning to take them to their destination. Food and water were provided to all passengers during this difficult time.
Investigation and Relief Efforts
Railway officials are investigating the cause of the incident, which occurred when the express train entered a loop line instead of the main line. Relief efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety and welfare of the passengers.
