Tragic Details of the Jalgoan Pushpak express Accident
A horrifying incident occurred on January 22, 2025, when 13 passengers of the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express lost their lives. The tragedy unfolded after a false fire alarm led passengers to jump off the train, only to be hit by the speeding Karnataka Express on an adjacent track. Among the deceased are nine men and four women, with seven victims identified as Nepalese citizens.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis expressed his condolences, announcing ₹5 lakh compensation for each victim’s family. The Railway Board has also promised ex-gratia payments, with ₹1.5 lakh for the deceased’s kin and ₹50,000 for the injured.
Investigations Underway
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar confirmed that a tea-seller’s false fire rumor sparked the panic. Railway authorities cited poor visibility caused by track curvature as a contributing factor. A team of senior officials, including safety and mechanical engineers, is probing the incident.
Survivors Share Their Stories
Shaukat Ali, a survivor, recounted, “We jumped off due to panic and clung to each other tightly to survive.” Another victim’s family identified their loved one through clothing, as the bodies were severely mutilated.This tragic event highlights the critical need for safety measures and public awareness to prevent future disasters.
